A week later we’ll meet up with you again to give you a range of design ideas on refreshing your marketing communications. If you love the ideas and want us to progress them then we will give you your money back, if you hate the ideas then we’ll give you your money back and if you want to take the ideas and work on them yourself then that’s fine too.

When Abu Dhabi Week approached us, it had been in production for over 18 months and had settled down into an efficient production tempo.

The downside to this was that the team felt they had stopped thinking about best practice, and therefore decided it was time for a rethink/refresh.

About Abu Dhabi Week

As Abu Dhabi continues its rapid development with more people relocating to the capital and visitor numbers rising for both business and pleasure trips, there is a clear need for a genuine local news publication that keeps residents as well as visitors in touch with the life of the city. So in steps Turret Media with Abu Dhabi Week. Abu Dhabi Week covers for its readers; what’s going on, what they can do, where they can go, what they need to see, the best places to eat, the best places to shop.

And, Abu Dhabi Week is the only weekly publication dedicated to news, reviews and events in and around Abu Dhabi and has regular sections dedicated to: Property, Shopping, Art and Culture, Recreation, Eating Out & Nightlife, Health and Fitness and News. Abu Dhabi Week has a circulation of 75,000 copies - this makes it one of the largest-circulating publications in the UAE and by far the highest circulating publication in Abu Dhabi. The Problem

ADW had been in production for over 18 months and had settled into an efficient production tempo. However, the production team felt they had stopped thinking about whether their actions are the best way to do it, and decided that it was time for a rethink/refresh. Some other factors compounded this decision too. Abu Dhabi Week was about to get its first real competition – Time Out was gearing up to launch a weekly edition in Abu Dhabi.

And whilst they probably weren’t going to be able to match ADW's distribution (82000 copies) and their editorial emphasis is slightly different (ADW isn’t a listings magazine, it's a community newspaper) potential readers will still probably compare them alongside each other. So, one of our missions was to emphasise ADW's strengths and its points of differentiation. ADW also wanted us to optimise the relationship between the weekly print product and other media. Their website is working sweetly now and they need to start developing serious cross-media links. The printed product needed to be able to refer readers easily to the website to get background or additional information/references to relevant stories, something that the current design failed to do.

The Solution

We reviewed and prepared a critique of the existing ADW magazine for the production team and along with the results from an extensive reader survey we drew a very clear set of parameters for our redesign campaign. One of the main criticisms for the magazine was around visual navigation. We found the existing design very wordy and heavy going.

We felt that a magazine of this nature should be able to be skim-read during mini down- times such as taxi rides, train journeys etc and if the readers interest was captured by an articles heading, its standfirst or some outquotes, they would likely come back to it at a later more convenient time. If nothing jumps out at a reader then they are more likely to discard the magazine or leave it on the train/taxi seat for another punter to read. So without wanting to teach the production team to suck eggs and whilst understanding the constant struggle in publishing between column inches and design, we put our case to ADW and they agreed with our findings.

If you have a magazine or other piece of marketing collateral that you think is getting tired and could do with a fresh set of eyes, why don't you at least give us a call, we'd love to do an appraisal for you.

European Future Energy Forum - 3 years of fully integrated Campaign support

Turret Middle East contracted HM to provide a comprehensive range of services for this important launch event. And they must have liked our work as they commissioned us for the two following years also, after which the event closed.

The Brief

EFEF was a launch event, targeting European communities. No previous collateral so all developed from scratch

The Solution

In year one we developed the initial brand concept, all marketing collateral including the multi-lingual event website and online event management system to allow the organisers, exhibitors and speakers to promote themselves to a huge international audience. We designed and developed a fully content-managed web solution backing the event making full use of our range of custom developed exhibition modules. The marketing collateral we developed for the event included; Adverts, site signage, pop-up displays, delegate dining menus, event stationary, event brochures, conference brochures and much more.

The EFEF event, run at Bilbao Exhibition Centre was amongst the first to use our suite of event specific CMS tools. These unique modules, created specifically for the event and conference industry allow much of the event management and exhibitor administration to be streamlined. This reduces the burden on event managers enormously, meaning teams can focus on the key area of maximising sales revenue and attendance to the event.

In subsequent years we developed the logo to reflect the country the events were being held in and the marketing material to refelct the content and themes of the years event.

HM provided an outstanding end-to-end service in the development of this vital platform to support our flagship event. Their commitment to ensuring we were fully supported at all stages of the process, including during the event by moving their team onsite makes them stand out from other businesses. We will continue to work with HM on this and many other events, and would not hesitate to recommend them.
