My crochet blanket

I had another sucessful day today weaving my social network equivalent to a crochet blanket. Every day I am finding another patch to add to the blanket and I am starting to wonder just how big this blanket could get?
Today two patches were added to Martyn McDermott’s network of applications and services:
1. WorkStreamer – A potentially very useful site that aggregates online content of companies you want to keep a close eye on. I have trialed it by entering a competitor, a client, a supplier and my company site and will let you know what I think after a couple of weeks of testing it.
2. Flavors.me – My second and definitely favourite discovery today (that requires no testing) was flavors.me – a kind of duvet cover for my crochet blanket! Its a paid for service but it is very reasonable and in my opinion well worth the money. Its an easily configurable and very versatile dashboard of all your social networks and online media portals. It currently supports 20 of the most popular sites/services and will be adding more in the future. As a designer I can appreciate that the problemsolving required to achieve this service in such a successful and beautiful way is no mean feat! As the developers said in their blog:
“The whole goal with Flavors is to give people a tool to create something personal, something special, something different. That can’t be accomplished when you give people options like “Duckhunt”, “Steampunk”, or “OMG Jonas Brothers” Theme. The argument for themes comes from the fact that most people aren’t designers, so if you give them the final product and allow them to slap their name on it, it becomes theirs. My argument is that people may not be designers, but they are creative.”
Personally, I think Flavors.me has achieved a big win on the design front. Millions of combinations constructed and composed in such a way that that will all look great is very impressive.
Unfortunately, there is currently an issue with twitter feeds displaying properly but we have been assured via the flavorsme twitter page that its being looked into and will be sorted soon. I cant wait for it to be resolved as then my page will be complete.
I had been thinking recently that I’d like mu own portfolio/personal site but have been so preoccupied with the company blog, my MA blog, my Facebook page, Tweeting on multiple accounts, running my Processing experiment and delivering client work tyhat I couldn’t see when I’d have time to add another admin task to my list.
Flavors.me has taken that problem away from me and allowed me to create a very personalised residence on the web that serves as the perfect snapshot of my digital footprint at any moment in time. All I can say is thankyou for your genius and I look forward to seeing the great things that are yet to come from your creative camp.
